Sinquerim Fort - History details

An outwork of the Aguada defenses above Sinquerim Beach, this seafront bastion grew with the 1612 Portuguese fort system controlling the Mandovi mouth. Its ramparts project into the Arabian Sea, guarding anchorages below; the complex later included the 1864 lighthouse and water reservoirs. Today it’s a popular sunset perch linking Candolim–Sinquerim sands with Aguada’s upper citadel.
