Calangute Beach - History details

North Goa’s largest and most visited beach, Calangute forms a long crescent of sand in Bardez, 15 km north of Panaji. From a quiet fishing village, it surged to fame during the 1960s hippie trail and today is dubbed the ‘Queen of Beaches’. Geography links it south to Candolim and north to Baga; Christmas–New Year sees peak crowds, fireworks and late-night shacks along the Arabian Sea.
