Cabo De Rama Fort - History details

A cliff‑top stronghold in Canacona, the fort predates the Portuguese and passed to them in the 1760s after the Raja of Soonda sought protection from Hyder Ali. The Portuguese added barracks, a chapel to St. Anthony and heavy guns; later it served as a prison until 1955. Overlooking the Arabian Sea between Agonda and Cavelossim, it’s famed for sunsets and Ramayana legends behind its name.
