Shree Mangesh Temple - History details

Goa’s best‑known Shiva shrine, Shree Manguesh at Priol (Ponda taluka) was relocated here in 1560 when Portuguese conversions began at Cortalim. Rebuilt under Maratha patronage and renovated in 1890 and 1973 (golden kalash), the temple’s deepastambha and tank typify Goan Hindu architecture. The kuladevata of Goud Saraswat Brahmins, it witnesses major crowds on Maha Shivaratri and Shravan Mondays.
