Betul Lighthouse - History details

The Betul Lighthouse, an octagonal RCC tower of about 15 m, overlooks the confluence of the Sal River and the Arabian Sea at Betul. Maintained by India’s Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships, the site grew around coastal defenses built after Governor Estêvão de Gama’s proposals of 1540. Reached by a short hill hike, it offers sweeping estuary views; sunsets in winter are especially memorable.
