Archaeological Museum Of Goa - History details

Founded by the ASI in 1964 inside the former Convent of St. Francis of Assisi at Old Goa, this museum houses eight galleries: portraits of Portuguese viceroys, hero and sati stones, Hindu temple fragments, coins, maps and a 3.1‑m bronze of Afonso de Albuquerque. Surrounded by UNESCO‑listed churches, it’s busiest Oct–Feb. Closed Fridays; core precinct celebrates St. Francis Xavier’s feast in early December.
