Alorna Fort ( Santa Cruz De Alorna ) - History details

Built in the 17th century by the Bhonsles of Sawantwadi to guard the Chapora River frontier, Alorna Fort was seized by the Portuguese in 1746 and renamed Santa Cruz de Alorna; control shifted again in 1761 before a recapture in 1781. Perched above Alorna village in Pernem, the laterite bastions overlook pastoral floodplains—an offbeat, restored slice of North Goa’s border history.
