Khambhalida Rock Caves - History details

These Buddhist limestone rock‑cut caves near Jetpur date to the 4th–5th century CE and were discovered in 1958 by archaeologist P. P. Pandya. The central chaitya cave features Bodhisattva sculptures (Padmapani and Vajrapani) reflecting Kushana‑Kshatapa artistry. Set at the base of hillocks by a spring, they represent ancient monastic life and early Gujarat Buddhist heritage.
