Ashok Shilalekh ( Ashoka Rock Edicts ) - History details
Ashok Shilalekh at the foothills of Girnar, Junagadh, contains 14 major rock edicts carved in the 3rd century BCE by Emperor Ashoka, written in Brahmi script and conveying principles of Dharma, moral living, and non‑violence. Later inscriptions by Rudradaman (2nd century CE) and Skandagupta (5th century CE) appear on the same rock, making it a rare multi‑era historical monument. It remains one of India’s most important archaeological heritage sites.
