Suriyanar Koil Temple ( Sun Temple ) - History details

Built by Kulottunga Chola I between 1060–1118 CE, Suriyanar Koil near Aduthurai is the only Navagraha temple with individual shrines for all nine planetary deities. Located in Thanjavur district, it stands amidst fertile Cauvery-belt villages. The temple’s legend of Sage Kalava and Brahma enriches its spiritual aura. Ratha Saptami in January–February is the grand annual festival celebrated with Surya abhishekam.
