St. Angelo Fort Kannur - History details

St. Angelo Fort, built in 1505 by the Portuguese Viceroy Francisco de Almeida, stands on the Kannur coast overlooking Mappila Bay. Later modified by the Dutch and British, the triangular laterite fort has bastions, cannons and sea‑view ramparts. It is an ASI‑protected monument and a major heritage site.
