Poomala Dam - History details

Commissioned in 1968 after a division weir (1939), Poomala Dam is an earthen irrigation reservoir managed by Kerala’s Minor Irrigation Department. Set in the Poomala hills near Thrissur, it sits ~95 m AMSL with gardens, a 600‑m walkway and boating developed later. Declared a tourist centre on 21 Mar 2010, it’s serene year‑round; Pathazhakundu Dam lies just north.
