Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve - History details
Established in 1988, KMTR spans 1,601 sq. km in the Western Ghats and is part of the Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve. Historically, it was declared a sanctuary in 1962. The reserve hosts tigers, elephants, Nilgiri Tahr, and over 3,000 plant species. It forms the catchment for 14 rivers, making it vital for South Tamil Nadu’s water security.
