Hogenakkal lies on the Tamil Nadu–Karnataka border where the Kaveri drops ~20 m through carbonatite rocks—among the oldest in South Asia. Geography: gorge systems, sandy islets, and coracle circuits; peak flow post-monsoon. Known as ‘Smoky Rocks’ (hoge+kallu), it has long been a popular boatmen’s livelihood site. Special dates: coracle rides typically operate Oct–May, subject to river safety advisories.
