Dhauli Hill ( Shanti Stupa ) - History details
Dhauli on the Daya River’s bank, 8 km south of Bhubaneswar, is linked to the Kalinga War (261 BCE) and Emperor Ashoka’s conversion to Buddhism—memorialised by rock edicts and the elephant‑front sculpture. The white Shanti Stupa (built 1972 by Japan/Kalinga Nippon Buddha Sangha) crowns the hill, with light‑and‑sound shows narrating Ashoka’s transformation.
