Guarding Cuttack’s delta between the Mahanadi and Kathajodi, Barabati Fort traces to Somavamshi ruler Marakata Keshari (c. 987 CE), with major works under Eastern Ganga king Anangabhima Deva III. Geography: low alluvial apex of rivers. Interesting facts: ruins show a moat, gateway and the mound of a nine‑storied palace; the British seized it in 1803.
