Vijasan Caves - History details

The Vijasan Caves are a series of ancient Buddhist rock-cut caves near the village of Vijasan, in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. They were constructed in the 1st century A.D. and are historically linked to the Satavahana dynasty, specifically the reign of Yajna Sri Satakarni. A Monument of National Importance, the caves are an important example of early rock-cut Buddhist architecture in India.
