India’s first planned ecotourism destination (launched 1990s–2000s) lies at Thenmala in Kollam, with Culture, Adventure and Leisure zones curated by TEPS around the Parappar/Thenmala Dam on the Kallada River. Hours typically run 09:00–20:00; activities include elevated walkways, MTB, sculpture garden, boating and a light‑and‑sound show, with trails skirting Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary. ‘Thenmala’—‘honey hill’—recalls the area’s historic apiculture.
