Thangassery Lighthouse, Kollam - History details

Commissioned in 1902 at the historic Anglo‑Indian enclave of Thangassery, this 41‑m red‑and‑white banded cylindrical tower is Kerala’s second‑tallest lighthouse. Now fitted with a visitor lift, it offers sweeping views of Kollam coast, backwaters and the long Pulimuttu breakwater. Nearby lie remnants of Portuguese St. Thomas Fort and a colonial cemetery.
