Sukhna Lake - History details

Created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe, this 3‑sq‑km rain‑fed reservoir was envisioned by Le Corbusier at Chandigarh’s Shivalik foothills. Motorboats were barred to preserve calm, and migratory birds winter on its protected wetland. Flanked by a golf course and the Rock Garden, the promenade hosts festivals like the Mango Fair; rowing lanes once staged Asian events, with sunrise and sunset walks a daily ritual.
