Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary - History details

Declared in 1974 and expanded to 314.25 km² in 2011, Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary spans Udupi and Shivamogga districts below Agumbe in the Western Ghats. Evergreen and semi‑evergreen forests shelter elephants, lion‑tailed macaques and king cobras, while the perennial Sita River threads the terrain. Hebri is the nearest town. Guided treks and birdwatching are arranged seasonally; best months are October–April outside the peak monsoon.
