Shri Kapileshwara Swamy Temple, Belagavi - History details

Among Belagavi’s oldest Shiva shrines, Kapileshwar Temple—often called ‘Dakshin Kashi’—is linked by inscriptions near Kamal Basti to around 1000 CE. In the city near the Shahpur flyover, it houses a swayambhu (self‑manifest) linga and shrines to Ganesha, Hanuman and the Navagrahas. Devotees begin Jyotirlinga yatras here. Crowds peak on Mahashivaratri and Mondays of Shravan, when special abhishekas and bhajans are performed.
