Established in 1940 after Salim Ali’s recommendation, this 40‑acre riparian sanctuary on six islets of the Kaveri hosts pelicans, storks and crocodiles. Formed by a 17th‑century weir built 1645–48. Geography: Mandya near Mysore. Special date: 1940 declaration.
