Konni Ecotourism - Elephant Camp - History details

Konni’s historic Aanakkoodu (elephant kraal) at Pathanamthitta dates to 1942, when wooden enclosures were built to train rescued calves; elephant capture ended by the late 1970s. Today it functions as a welfare-and-interpretation centre with a small museum, nature trails and visitor interactions overseen by forest vets and mahouts. Set amid Konni’s forests near the Achankovil, it’s one of Kerala’s best-known places to learn humane elephant care.
