Built as a memorial to the Sufi saint Sheikh Fariduddin, the Kanjiramattom Mosque stands amid paddy fields and canals near Kochi in Ernakulam district. Its setting off the state highway places it close to the backwaters, and its history comes alive each year during Kodikuthu or Nercha, when the Chandanakkudam procession is held on January 13–14 with duffmuttu and richly caparisoned elephants.
