The Kalidas Smarak (memorial) is located in Ramtek, which is a separate town from Bhandara. As the two towns are relatively close, a visit to the memorial is more commonly associated with the Ramtek area, near Nagpur. The smarak is believed to be the place where the great Sanskrit poet Kalidas composed his world-famous poem, Meghdoot
