Gagan Mahal, Vijayapura - History details

Raised by Ali Adil Shah I c.1561, this palace‑cum‑durbar inside the Vijayapura citadel is famed for its 60 ft 9 in central arch. On the dry Deccan plain, it fronts a landscaped garden today. Interesting: here Aurangzeb received the captive Sikandar Adil Shah after Bijapur fell (17th c.). Special: open 08:00–18:00; winter (Oct–Mar) offers pleasant viewing.
