Originally built as a mud fort in 1537 by Kempe Gowda I, rebuilt in stone by Hyder Ali in 1761 and improved by Tipu Sultan. Captured by Cornwallis on 21 March 1791. Geography: Bengaluru center. Special dates: 1537 construction; 1791 siege.
