Asar Mahal, Vijayapura - History details

Built in 1646 by Mohammed Adil Shah, Asar Mahal served as a Hall of Justice before becoming a revered site housing sacred relics—two hairs of Prophet Muhammad. Positioned east of the Citadel, it features Persian arches, frescoes, and a square water tank. The annual Urs festival attracts devotees statewide. Women traditionally may not enter the inner chamber.
