Ancient Shri Veeranarayana Swamy Temple, Gadag - History details

Built around 1117 CE by Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana, this temple blends Chalukya, Hoysala and Vijayanagara architecture. Dedicated to Vishnu (Veeranarayana), it is famed as the place where poet Kumara Vyasa composed the Kannada Mahabharata. The temple features a Vijayanagara gopuram, Hoysala pillars and Chalukyan inner mantapa, marking Gadag’s importance as an ancient learning centre.
