Ancient Shri Kamala ( Kamal ) Basadi - History details

A celebrated Jain temple inside Belagavi (Belgaum) Fort, built in 1204 CE under the Ratta dynasty by Birchiraja (Jaya Raya), dedicated to Neminatha. The name ‘Kamala’ comes from the lotus‑carved ceiling with 72 petals symbolising past, present and future Tirthankaras. Doorways and pillars bear fine Western Chalukya‑style carvings; a small museum and allied basadis lie nearby.
