Single Root Bridge - History details
Multiple famous single-root bridges exist in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills, including those in Nongriat, Riwai, and the longest one in Rangthylliang. These natural wonders, known as Jing Kieng Jri, are a testament to the sustainable bio-engineering practiced by the local Khasi and Jaintia people, who weave and guide the roots of rubber fig trees (Ficus elastica) to form sturdy, living structures.
