Sanchi Archaeological Museum - History details

The Archaeological Museum at Sanchi, Raisen, was established in 1919 by Sir John Marshall, the Director-General of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). It was founded to display and preserve the numerous artifacts uncovered during the excavations at the ancient Buddhist site of Sanchi. The museum is located at the foot of the Sanchi hill, near the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Sanchi Stupas.
