Raj Nivas - History details

Founded in 1738 under French Governor Pierre Benoît Dumas and completed by Dupleix, Raj Nivas served as the Palais du Gouverneur and later the Lieutenant Governor’s residence. Rebuilt after 1761 British destruction, it exhibits Rococo architecture, monolithic pillars from Gingee Fort (1751), and houses artifacts and state suites named after UT regions.
