Patalkot - History details

Patalkot is a mystical, horseshoe-shaped valley located in the Tamia tehsil of Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district, about 78 km from the city of Chhindwara. The name "Patalkot" means "deep fortress" in Sanskrit, a reference to its isolated location 1,200 to 1,500 feet below the surrounding landscape. For centuries, the valley's indigenous tribes were cut off from the outside world due to its difficult, forested terrain. It has recently gained attention as an eco-tourism destination.
