Namgyal Monastery—“Dalai Lama’s Temple”—is the personal monastery of H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama. Founded in the 16th century (by the 2nd/3rd Dalai Lamas) and relocated to McLeod Ganj after 1959, it trains ~200 monks in ritual practice, philosophy, and tantra. Within the Tsuglagkhang complex, it anchors Dharamshala’s Tibetan spiritual life and hosts teachings, sand‑mandalas, and public rituals.
