Lal Qila, built in 1648 by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, served as the royal residence of Shahjahanabad. Located on the western bank of the Yamuna in Old Delhi, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The massive red sandstone fort symbolizes Mughal power. An important fact is that the Prime Minister hoists the national flag here every 15 August.
