Jantar Mantar Ujjain - History details

The Jantar Mantar in Ujjain, also known as the Shri Jiwaji Vedh Shala, is an astronomical observatory built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II around 1725. It was established to improve upon existing astronomical instruments and revise ancient Indian calendars and tables. Ujjain was a historically significant site for Hindu astronomy, and the observatory is located near the Tropic of Cancer.
