Churdhar Wildlife Sanctuary - History details
Declared in 1985, this 56 km² sanctuary encircles Churdhar Peak (3,647 m)—highest in the outer Himalaya/Shivaliks. It protects Himalayan black bear, musk deer and pheasants; the peak is sacred to Shirgul (Chureshwar) Mahadev. Surveyor General George Everest made observations here in the 1830s. Popular pilgrim treks start at Nohradhar; Navratri fairs draw devotees.
