Amar Mahal Museum & Library - History details

Commissioned by Raja Amar Singh and completed in the 1890s by a French architect, this red‑sandstone château overlooks the Tawi. Converted to a museum by the Hari‑Tara Charitable Trust and inaugurated by PM Indira Gandhi on 13 April 1975, it showcases a 120‑kg golden throne, Pahari/Kangra miniatures and a ~25,000‑volume library—an essential window into Dogra history and arts.
